Reverence
Reverence
Reverence grew up in a cult that worshipped ruin, seeing it as both sacred and beautiful, a belief that shaped his early life. Driven by desperation, Reverence attempted to silence the god that only he could hear, but the ritual failed, costing him his right arm. The cult, unwavering in their beliefs, saw his loss as divine punishment for his defiance, further isolating Reverence from their doctrine. He rebuilt himself; the biting chill of cold steel felt harsh to his skin as his new arm was forged. His mechanical replacement was stronger than what was taken from him. Now it hums at night, whispering prayers in a voice that sounds disturbingly close to the god’s.
He abandoned his old Family before they could carve anything else from him, carrying both the failure and the loud, relentless noise in his head. The metal arm responds to the god’s presence, vibrating when the pressure behind his eyes grows too strong. Sometimes its fingers twitch toward cracks in walls or broken glass, as if recognizing something holy in the damage. He remains uncertain whether the arm harbors the god or merely echoes its presence, a mystery that haunts his every move. All he knows is that silence has never truly returned.
